Dreams ; Burning Man in Afghanistan w/Charlie Manson

So this isn’t a story about my tour. It’s a dream I had this morning and for some odd reason I wanted to publish it.

I’ve yet to make any attempts to interpret it. You are free to speculate yourself and let me know.

I was running around a delapidated town that resembled Nogales, Mexico.

I was in a panic. Someone was out to get us. Well at least someone was out to get me. The town was rioting so a handful of us fled for the hills beyond the buildings. We thought it might be able to find refuge there.

Who was out to get us? I was still trying to figure that part out myself.

There was a so called boy genius who some how got put on charge. Everyone seemed to be following him, but there was something about him that I didn’t trust. He wasn’t even a boy really, just a young man.

At first I thought it was a guy I know from Missouri, because the landscape suddenly resembled Missouri, but then it morphed into another guy I knew from Sweden. He had a stupid haircut and it was died black. He was taking us through the corn fields and he kept talking about Charlie Manson. I wanted to mention my kinship with Charlie but I hesitated and let him go on blathering while I just asked questions as to why he was interested.

It piqued my curiosity. Me and him both shared an interest in Manson. It disturbed me that I had something in common with someone I didn’t like very much. I ended up asking him some questions. He had never spoke with Charlie before, but that was his goal. I think his interest might have only been feigned for shock value and not a genuine intrigue.

Anyways, we kept walking and ended up in the desert and there were a bunch of people there acting like hippies, only they were Afghanis. We were in Afghanistan somehow and everyone was dancing between these giant rock formations. It was like ”Burning Man in Afghanistan”

I wandered away from the rock formations and met a girl who was watching a television that hung from the post of a drive-thru Taco Bell. It was abandoned like the ones in New Orleans.

The video she was watching was a new Charlie Manson music video, but the music sounded nothing like it usually did with the acoustic guitar and beautiful singing. It had a brash tribal/techno feel.  Everyone in the video was dressed up like malignant turds running through intestine and giving it cancer. They were representing the bad people of the earth destroying their environment and giving the human race cancer. It kinda reminded me of a GWAR concert.

The video had obviously become a hit and was being syndicated through all every TV screen on the planet. Even the ones that were just dead drive-thru monitors.

When the video was through, me and the girl headed back to the hippies and that’s when a helicopter came and everyone ducked underneath the rocks.

It bombed the hippies and only a few survived. I was one of the survivors. I lifted my head to see another rescue helicopter there waiting for me. There were a hand full of other survivors onboard already and they were waiting for me.

I climbed aboard we flew out of dreamland and into the waking world.

Paul Needza Friend's Road Blog (Intro)

Hello Everyone !

As you know I have been on the road quite a bit this year, however for the next couple months I will be situated and I wanted to take this opportunity to communicate with many of my friends and fans from the road.

I love being on the road and I love traveling. I love roving from town to town sharing music and meeting people.

Unfortunately, it’s not all buttons and bows.  Living life on the road means sacrificing quite a bit.

Every time I make a friend on the road, I also receive small hole in my heart because I know that I might never see them again. Even if I do get to hang out with them again, our time will be limited…and off I go again.

All my friends are spread out through out the world and I do not get to see anybody on a regular basis. Even when I get some time off the road, I am usually consumed by work, booking more tours, writing recording, making videos etc.

True DIY calls for one person to the work of 20.

I have dozens of new songs that I have not gotten the chance to properly record and release. Several videos as well as well as countless other endeavors.

Perhaps worst of all, I find that I never have time to stay in touch with all my friends and fans from the road.

I wish that I had time to write to everyone, but my letters are often few and far between.

Sometimes people just want to know how I’m doing and I just don’t get the chance to write them back. I’m not trying to be distant or rude, I’m just trying to keep the train rolling, know what I’m saying?

Anyways, I’ve made a decision.

I’ve decided to start this daily blog so that I can feel that I am at least keeping in touch with all of the people I care about. Also, I hope that you also feel closer to me by reading these entries.

I will be writing EVERYDAY about events that happened on my tours. Funny stories, weird people, fucked up concerts, and anything else that happens to come out of my head at the time.

Many of you will probably make your way into the contents of this blog and I hope my memory serves you well.

I look forward to your comments and participation in this. I really do think about all of you after I leave your town and I always look forward to coming back.

See you tomorrow.

Paul

Peace in Anarchy Video

Hey Fellas!

SO after many attempts I finally got the new ”Peace in Anarchy”  video up on Youtube. It took me a few tries. I couldn’t get the quality and the color to look right.

I will have many more videos coming this fall, now that I’m getting things in order on the net. That includes music, interviews, and guitar lesson videos.

I thought it might be interesting for you guys to know how this video happened.

I was trying to learn the Beatles’ song ”You’ve got to hide your love away” when I made a horrible mistake. I totally fucked up the chord changes. And when I did that, my voice did something strange to try and follow the fucked-up chord changes.

This sparked an idea in my head for this new song ”Peace in Anarchy”. It was like the entire song popped into my head all at once and I scurried to my notebook to write down all the lyrics in my head before I forgot them, and my hands just seemed to make the write chords without me thinking about it.

Truly a magic moment in my songwriting history.

I was so excited about the song I felt that I needed to recortd it write away in case I got hit by a falling aardvark later that day and no one ever got to hear it. Well I didn’t have any way to record it on my computer jus then without a lot of preparation and I didn’t have that kind of patience.

So I just set up the video camera up on the refrigerator at the place I was at and pressed record. I didn’t even bother to put on any clothes. And I just played the clown.

I was very surprised to see that the video came out looking quite good, so I put it up on YouTube for all to see.

I find it comical tha that I was so satisfied with a process that took only a few minutes to write completely and record.

I hope you have as much fun watching the video and hearing the song as I did making and writing them.

Please enjoy and I will see you on the road,

Paul

Calling from the Underground – Intro

It’s taken me while to get everything figured out so I could bring you guys decent quality videos. I had some problems with the sound quality of the videos and figuring out the compression levels.

But now things are running much smoother and I hope you guys enjoy these videos. I have several more interviews that need to be edited and posted. I also have at least a dozen more interviews scheduled for the rest of the year with other Underground Icons.

Calling from the Underground means a lot to me as you might imagine. Having the chance to meet and interview all these insightful people really thrills me.

I hope these interviews inspire you to take action in your life with whatever you do. Whether you’re an artist or furniture maker, I think the integrity of the DIY spirit will bring much success and happiness into your life if you let it into your heart.

As you know, I spend a lot of time on the road, traveling, performing, and meeting new people. And one of the most disenheartening phenomena that I run into is the surplus of people young and old who are not aware of the power that they possess to lead incredible lives.

If you feel that any aspect of your at all hopeless, I hope to change your perspective.

I will talk more about the philosophies of ”Calling from the Underground” in upcoming posts.

And if you think you would be a good candidate for an episode of ”Calling From the Underground” please email me at paul@paulneedzafriend.com and we will arrange an interview with you for when I’m in your town. If a video interview can’t be arranged, we can do a written interview with you and I will post it here.

I look forward to hearing from you all.

Until then, See you on the Road,

Paul

Chords and Lyrics

Wow…more news after only a week.
Okay, sooo… I been getting a lot of people lately emailing me about chords and lyrics to my songs. And let me just say I am SOOOOO fucking excited and grateful that there’s so many people who want to learn how to play my songs! XD Unfortunately I ain’t had the time to write y’all back, but I still want to get that information to yous. :)

So I’m putting up a new rubric called ”chords ‘n’ lyrics” on this website and I hope it helps. There will be a couple songs there to start and there will be more to come. Please write me at paul@paulneedzafriend.com if you would like to learn a specific song that I ain’t put up the chords and lyrics for yet. I will get to work and put them up on the website for everyone.

You guys got no idea how much your support means to me. So keep the emails coming and let me know your thoughts.
Loads of thanks
Paul
